Undergraduate students who participate in research develop critical thinking, communication skills, self-confidence, and professionalism. A report by the American Association of Colleges and Universities found that 56% of employers were much more likely to consider a job candidate who had conducted research with a faculty member.

As a Global Studies major, you can conduct your own research project mentored by a faculty member or work as a research assistant in a faculty-led project. In both capacities, you can earn course credit (GLBL 401 Individual Study in Global Studies).
All UMBC undergraduate students can apply for awards of up to $1,500 to fund their research and awards of up to $750 to present their research at an off-campus event. Each spring, UMBC student researchers can present their work at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD). They can also submit their research for publication in the UMBC Review.
You are welcome to email one of our faculty members to inquire about research opportunities. They will be happy to help. Here you can find their contact information and fields of study.
