An Articulation Agreement has been established to formalize the collaboration between Global Studies BA at UMBC and the Global Studies Certificate CCBC. This agreement will facilitate a more streamlined transfer process for students who have successfully completed the Global Studies Certificate program at CCBC as they transition to the 4-year Global Studies B.A at UMBC.
How it works:
CCBC (Years 1 & 2): Complete your required courses for the AA in General Studies or field of your choice with the Global Studies Certificate. You’ll build a strong foundation in introductory courses and begin your language studies. With the completion of the Global Studies Certificate, you can expect to transfer 16-18 credits to your Global Studies major at UMBC
UMBC (Years 3 & 4): Transition to UMBC to complete your upper-level Global Studies major requirements, including research methods, thematic electives, study abroad and more! You’ll dive deeper into interdisciplinary coursework and may focus on various areas, including: Culture, Place, and Identity; Development, Health, and the Environment; and International Affairs/Global Governance, Human Rights, and Civil Society.
Below is a sample 4 year pathway for a student transferring from CCBC with a certificate in Global Studies, to the GLBL BA at UMBC. This provides a sample semester-by-semester plan for how you should schedule your classes.
As you progress through your major here at UMBC, GLBL program coordinator and advisor will give you more specific feedback based on your course selection, but this sample pathway will provide a good overview of what you can expect.
